The ability to filter players eligibility
I'd love to see more stats in career mode that you can filter and see different players depending on position and team. They should also have career stats for each player broken down season by season. This will really allow you to see how your player and team has progressed over the years in franchise
From experience the main game mode i play is usually a career mode mainly with UK based teams. Things i would like to be added to the next instalment of the game would be the following

Make the Challenge Cup more special even having the draw being show even if it is just each team appearing on the screen. And get Wembley

If players aren't playing rating should drop it seems no matter what age players are the rating just keeps going up.

Every season seems like a repeat of season before maybe alter the fixture running.

Make Derby Games more special maybe lads local to area get an attributes boost for the game due to it is a local derby.

Add a bit of story for example foreign players getting home sick or if a player sustains an injury rating may alter for example pace and kicking ability may drop.

Crowd size alters for each match.

Buying out of contracts make negotiations more realistic and clubs approaching you to buy out contracts you can accept or reject also.

I'd love an ultimate team mode or something similar but that'll never happen.

Just a few ideas but if the game came out yearly i would buy it like a fifa just want more consistent releases.

There's plenty to build on with RLL4, but they need to address a number of core issues to provide greater gameplay depth and replay in RLL5

Offloads: second phase play is a huge part of rugby league, but its execution in the RLL is abysmal. It's risk is too high and reward is too low. They need a system that is easy to understand and execute, but is also not completely unrealistic. Players should be able to
- Spin in contact for quick out the back offloads 
- Try wrestle an arm free in a tackle if it's an upper body one 
- Have a quick-time event for a classic offload for a grassing tackle.

Contact area: 
- Tackles from behind should mostly be grassing quick tackles. Tackles in all RL games have lacked serious depth... speed of the play the ball is critical in RL as a sport, and they're often generated by players making half breaks and forcing players to tackle them from behind. 
- Surrenders for quick play the balls - The game offer both the ability of defending players to hold down and also for attacking players to surrender or go to ground. 

- Passing at the line should be slicker and more responsive. Currently even a couple meters out it's impossible to pass as the tackle animation seems to prevent it 

Graphics: fix the crappy lighting and field detail levels.
For the love of god stop that useless animation that means you always concede tries close to the line. You know the one, where two guys bring the attacker down and it always causes a try. It’s just a bad animation and gives away cheap points.
As is the defence stays too spread too often and creates a wall plus doesn't really have any real intent in its go forward which also creates an extra problem for attack plus as well as the warping tackler glitch as well as the slow play the balls, slow and at times loopy passing, poor offloads,  deep set play depth mid field and I can understand why right stick moves are seemingly so OP to combat it. 

I can understand if anyone thinks it's too hard to score tries and isn't having fun because of it. It makes the game more difficult in a non fun way in my opinion.

A few things I think can be done is have the AI or player utilise compressed and sliding defence better to create a better sense of risk reward for using both well and showing on field where the best option for attack is middle or wide by being able to see a tighter mid you either grind it up the middle creating momentum and battle for field position or quickly spin it wide aiming for overlaps and that is where a faster play the ball stand and play animation and say 20 percent faster pass comes into play along with some tighter flatter play options with more players closer and flatter with the dummy half so you can quickly take advantage of a compressed retreating defence as well as the addition of more offload options for good forward play like a one hand offload in a held tackle or the one handed offload on a low legs tackle falling which could be indicated when available somehow, maybe a down facing green arrow over the head of the tackled player which disappears when the timing window closes. 

This also means the support play has to be improved as well to create support runners in anticipation of not only offloads but for set plays as well where you get the free flowing mix of gap runs and tackle offload support runs.

In the last few games you can rush players with one player on defence to put pressure on your opponent, I want the whole line to be able to do this hence my defensive ideas in an earlier post above. You want that aggressive up and in D but at the risk of fatigue. Even if the controlled movement was just adjusted to be both compressed defence and draw players into tackle. It is kind of there now it's just the clumsiness of the control options to get it to work properly as well as the OP right stick moves that wreck it.

Could also speed the game up a bit more or give the option to do so, I want more intensity on both attack and defence but also the feeling that if I do things well on attack or defence I will be rewarded. I want that on edge feeling that if I make a mistake I will be punished on defence or if I roll up the middle a few plays and then swing it wide I can be rewarded. Just a more free flowing, faster more intense and realistic experience.

This brings me to the topic of assisted defence. I really think the training wheels should come off now. There are many ways this can be avoided now whether it be holding the tackle button(s) down to draw defenders into the tackle or other but I just think it's time to give the player the choice now maybe have the option to turn it on off but off should be default now.

As for sliders I'd really like a universal AI and player gameplay option like 2K or FIFA with a shitload of tuners for everything possible.

I also think it's time to give us the tools you guys use to create your set plays so we can do it ourselves thanks. :p

So yeah a bit of a long read but I hope some of this constructive criticism helps positively with the direction of the next game.

Leave the controls as they are, it's a pita when they are changed, just make it easier to select a player when the opposition break your line as it's hard to deselect the fullback quickly.

I'd like to see more reaction from the crowd after a try is scored, away fans congregated in the away ends and proper crowd chants for each team i.e. "oh when the saints go marching in" for St Helens.

We need to be able to edit the team name of clubs in career mode too to allow for teams that get promoted/relegated.
