Gamesmen pre play competition

Nah because you have to do 4 years as a patrol officer before you can even attempt to be a detective and then it's tons of training and tests before you can.

I think if you want to be a Cop without major risk you go for small town Police or like Army Reserve Military Police where you just sit in a booth and check I.D's all day.

They get paid penalty rates though. So its 65k + penalty

Nah, if you were to be a cop you would wanna be a detective where you solve murder cases like CSI, Castle Big Grin

Just prior to me resigning from the Australian Federal Police (12yrs service) this was my pay break down:

Base Salary: $69,000 (+ 22% Composite) = $84,180
Annual Nightshift Premium: $3,000 approx
Public Holiday Payments $2,200 approx

Total Salary without overtime: $89,380

The collective bargaining agreement would index salaries on average 3% per year for the term of the agreement.

The record earnings of one officer at my previous station was around $160,000 for the year but he was an overtime king...

Most years I would still make over $100k with a bit of overtime here and there.....

@SOR big things can still happen in small towns buddy. The AFP works a little different after serving your 18 months probationary period you can apply to be transferred to specialised "functional roles" where you can concentrate your efforts on a particular area of role scope, for example; People Smuggling, Protection, High Tech Crime Unit, PACE Team....heaps of doors to go through.

These days it is quite competitive.... it's not so much that any one particular person is not suited for the job it's more the case that the candidate being more appealing than the next. These days you almost need to possess a degree to even get a look in...

It is a very stringent selection process called "gateways" and takes some time to proceed through them.

Even at over 100k it's a little low for risking your life every day I think. Especially considering someone such as Jackie O who simply talks on radio (Doesn't even control her own panel) makes millions.

I am much inclined to agree with you and to some extent could be viewed as insulting towards our serviceman and women. Prior to my career in the AFP I was in the Australian Army (4 years in Recon) and recall having a conversation along these lines with another soldier whilst on deployment overseas however we were on some pretty good coin over there at the time....
